Featuring all Weimar Berlin cabaret songs that were condemned as degenerate” by the rising Nazi Regime, this reflective, political, funny, witty, gentle and erotic soirée noir is set in the historical context of the Weimar Republic, before the rise of Nazism in 1933 closes the curtain of Germany’s Golden Age forever.

06/08/2022 | We are the People! (Benefit concert for Ukraine)

Pantheon Bonn, Germany

The revenue goes to “Aktion Deutschland Hilft”

In cooperation with the Pantheon Bonn, many wonderful artists have come together to share their talents in the frame of a benefit concert to help the people in Ukraine!

The dazzling entertainer Adrienne Haan, who has performed on on Broadway and at Carnegie Hall, moderates the evening and, accompanied by her trio, delights the audience with well-known show tunes.

The voice of American jazz singer Soleil Niklasson literally shines like the sun – has intensity and color. She and her band merge into one sound and take their listeners on a musical journey full of emotions and pure “joie de vivre”.

Christina Lux is a shining light among the many singer-songwriters. Together with her companion Oliver George on guitar and vocals, they both melt into one another and it is astonishing how space-filling and intensive only two musicians can be.

Evi Niessner with her own glamorous aura is regarded as the outstanding interpreter of French chansons and authentic performer of the icon Piaf. She enchants with Chanson Divine accompanied by piano and violin.

Improvisation artist Christian Padberg – or “Dad’s Phonkey” is a very exceptional talent. Although originally a drummer, he takes the stage on his own – with nothing but his voice and a loop station.

The grand finale is presented by the Bonn Jazzchoir; a-capella Jazz at its best.
Audiences have been raving at their performances.

Theaterhaus, Stuttgart, Germany

Film and book in comparison, how does Heinrich Mann’s novel Professor Unrat or The End of a Tyrant, a bitter satire about the German bourgeoisie at the turn of the century and its film adaptation, differ?

The focus of the joint event organized by the German Literature Archive in Marbach and the Spoken Arts Festival is the comparison between Heinrich Mann’s novel and the film by Josef von Sternberg. In the film, Rath violates the rules of society and ultimately breaks under the circumstances. In the novel he runs into self-inflicted misfortune: all his life he had submitted to bourgeois values and acted out his aggression towards his students, now after his dismissal from school he attacks the bourgeois order and celebrates wild parties. The pillars of society gather at his house to gamble and forget their bourgeois manners. Rath enjoys the chaos he’s created. Is this anarchistic tendency of the novel missing in the film? Does the film show the fate of an individual and does without the social satire of the original? What is the difference between book and film and what do these differences do?

The songs from the movie “The Blue Angel” are sung by the great artist Adrienne Haan, accompanied by her long-time accompanist and partner on the piano, Benjamin Schaefer.
